Marine’s mother to help lay wreaths as part of national project to honor veterans
December 12, 2012Joan Snyder and dozens of other volunteers will participate in Wreaths Across America Day on Dec. 15 by laying wreaths at several hundred local veterans’ graves. Wreath-laying and other ceremonies will take place at more than 600 sites in all 50 states plus Puerto Rico, Mexico, Panama, the Philippines and sites in Europe. Continue reading

July 5, 2012As she has each July 4 since 2006, Lauri Richardson will spend this morning coordinating the installation of thousands of flags on Newfane Common — one for each U.S. casualty in the Iraq War.
But when those flags are removed in a few weeks, they won’t be returning. Nearly seven months after the war officially ended, Richardson is retiring a display that has spurred a wide range of emotions and stories from volunteers and from passersby. Continue reading
