Surgeon, 64, volunteers for Afghanistan after son’s injury

When New York orthopedic surgeon Dr. Lawrence Bone heard the Army had a great need for surgeons, he made the decision to put himself in harm’s way to help service members like his son, who was injured in Iraq.

“I said, ‘Wow, I would be more than happy to join but I’m too old,’ and they looked at me and said, ‘Oh no, you’re not,’ ” he recalls with a grin.

He’s headed to Afghanistan. NBC’s Rehema Ellis reports here and at msnbc.com.

Outstanding. This man is praise worthy and deserving of respect. Thank-you sir for being brave enough, loyal enough, and just down right ‘stand-upish’ enough to do the right thing.
