A Washington Senator is expected to introduce Tuesday the Women Veterans and Other Health Care Improvement Act of 2012.

The program is expected to help female and severely injured veterans in their family pursuits, according to Army Times.

The new legislation would cover some fertility treatments for severely injured veterans as well their spouses. The bill would also call for further research into the reproductive needs of veterans.

The report cites a study by the Joint Theater Trauma Registry that notes more than 1,200 service members suffered injuries to their genitourinary systems while in combat during a 10-year stretch concluding last November.
